WHO IS TERENCE WALSH?

A shadowy figure from the genesis of the modern Role-Playing Game movement, today we know next to nothing about him.

CAVES OF EVIL (1992)

An anonymous contact has provided us with this extremely rare material, detailing an exchange of correspondence between Mr. Walsh and DRAGON magazine, likely sometime in the first half of 1993. Kim Mohan had recently taken over as Editor-in-Chief of DRAGON, and Terence seems to have attempted to take advantage of the leadership change in some capacity. While we cannot share the proof of this material's provenance, we are assured (and thus assure you) that these letters are genuine. One strange detail that remains mysterious is we have not found, in any of our extensive research, any of the six "plagiarized" details Mr. Walsh lists here in any issue of DRAGON. It's unclear what he's referring to. Perhaps he is making false claims in an attempt at intimidation, or perhaps he has mistaken some other magazine for DRAGON? We don't yet know, and may never.

About

In the late 80s and early 90s there was no writer of fantastical role-play games so prolific or mysterious as Terence Walsh: enigma, notorious recluse, a riddle wrapped in a sweatervest. Only a few selected texts have surfaced. There are perhaps none left alive who can claim to have met Walsh in person. We few Walshheads cling to whatever scrap of rumor remains: a faded Usenet chat printout here, a static-laden recording of a telephone call from a public payphone there.Piece by piece a silhouette of the legendary figure is assembled. This digitized document paints the clearest picture yet of someone both years ahead and centuries behind his time. Perhaps one day we will know more and be able to answer:#whoisterencewalsh?
